President SBY's Special Staff for Social and Disasters Management Andi Arif told radio audience last Sunday that an earthquake with a magnitude of 8.7 on the Richter Scale could hit Jakarta and vicinity.
The Jakarta Globe quoted Andi Arif as saying that the epicenter of such earthquake would be located in the Sunda Strait (that separates the islands of Java and Sumatera).
In reaction to this statement, the Governor of West Java which borders with Jakarta, asked the public not to be panic. He said that he will coordinate with the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) to obtain more accurate data.
Further, a member of the House of Representatives criticized Andi Arif for making people panic with such prediction He said that Andi Arif should communicate it with the proper authorities i.e BMKG and the Ministry of Mineral Resource and Energy.

Rubiyanto Sutrisno,
Mudah2an tidak ada agenda tersebunyi.
mana ada gempa yg bisa diprediksi
Just be calm and relax. Until now we still cannot predict when an earthquake will happen.
HI Multibrand, (sorry, I don't know your name). I will be praying for the people of Jakarta and vicinity of the earthquake. Thank you for your comment on my blog. I am glad you feel that my writing can be applied to all who believe in God. That is what I aim for as well as hoping that maybe even some who don't believe in God may develop a hunger to learn about Him after reading my blog. I have always heard and believe that one plants the seed, another person may water, and God gives the increase. I may never know if my blog posts touch a "non-believer", but then again maybe somewhere down the line, that person will tell someone else what they read, and that person will tell someone else. This is why I never get disheartened about my blog. I appreciate you noticing that it is meant for all believers no matter what "faith".
God Bless You.

think first...than talking do not talk first than thinking.....that's the right word to our goverment
Harry, did the public actually panic?
The official's message looks pretty reasonable to me. I guess it is kind of a wake up call. He may have tried to mobilize public opinion to get everybody moving to be ready if/when the unthinkable happens.
kenapa masyarakat terus jadi korban...

@Yadiebaroos,
Yes I agree, government officials must think first before talking.
@Colson,
Maybe his statement would be reasonable under normal circumstances.
But people have been made scared by too many strange things like bomb threats, NII, etc. that they ask why hasn't our intelligence able to prevent them.
@I-One
Itu yang jadi pertanyaan kita semua.
