Sony Corp Dropped its Demand

Sony Corporation of Japan has finally realized that the word SONY that it used as a Trademark is a common name of a person.

According to Kompas, last Friday, 19 March, Sony Corp. has reached an agreement with Sony Arianto Kurniawan, an Indonesian who owns the website : www.sony-ak.com, which allowed Sony AK to keep using said website, therefore dropping its demand for the cessation of operation of the said website.

Considering that Sony AK has used the website since 2003 only for providing free information to other people, thus very different from Sony Corp's money making electronics manufacturing operations, therefore it is obvious for Sony Corp to drop its demand and settle the case amicably.

I'm glad I was wrong. I didn't expect Sony to use common sense. But it did. Good for them.

@Colson,
In today's free market era, it would not be wise for giant companies to be arrogant as they used to be.

Wow. Good for Sony, the person and the company. I hope the person didn't have to spend a lot in legal fee's.

Good Muslim Girl,
The settlement was done amicably with Sony Corp saying sorry for all the trouble caused by the demand, and Sony AK allowed to maintain its website.

It is wise for Sony Corp. to drop the claim since it does not make sense in almost any way that one has to stop using his own name for his personal non-commercial site.

By dropping the claim, Sony wouldn't hit the negative consequences in public opinion that, at worst, could lead to boycotting its products by the Indonesian public that backed Sony AK becuase they know that Sony AK had nothing but good intentions when he initially set up his blog or site and he is not eating into Sony Corp's profits....

@Yari,
The beauty of free market economy is that giants like Sony Corp. cannot be arrogant anymore, has no other choice but to back-off, if they want to maintain market for their products here.

Sony Corp finally opened their eyes. Why never thought of that before that Sony AK is only a person's name? I saw no use in fooling around all along...
