Julia Perez, candidate Regent of Pacitan

Singer Julia Perez (Jupe) has been nominated by eight political parties as candidate Regent of Pacitan, East Java, in the regional election next December.
The political parties includes PAN, Gerindra and Hanura.

Jupe (29) told Tempo that she doesn't know about politics and Pacitan, therefore she is now learning. She said that if elected, she is ready to leave show biz and consentrate on her duties as Regent. She also said that she will announce her vision and mission later.

Many people doubt the ability of celebrities like Jupe in holding public office. However as long as she fulfil all the requirements for the election, she has a right to be nominated as candidates in elections. The result of which shall totally depend on the decision of the voters..

Is that like a regional governor?

Hi Peter,
No Head of Regency is one level below the governor

I've seen beautiful women (Berlusconi, Italia's prime minister, had quite a number of them)and celebrities as political candidates.

Most of them turned out to be a failure. Reading about Julia Perez' qualifications, I bet she will not succeed either.

You are right, it takes more than popularity to lead a region.
Her chance may have been better if she is supported by the big parties.

If she is determine to succeed nothing is impossible.Unless she is just being used to attract voters and a proxy for someone else.

Great determination is a key to success, but in politics everything is based on similarity of interests of those involved, If she has been suppported by the ruling Democrat party it may have been different. Especially that Pacitan is the birthplace of the president.
