Falun Gong Radio

Radio Era Baru in Batam, Riau Province, airs 30 percent of its programs in Mandarin and targets the Indonesian-Chinese community as its market segment.
One of the radio's favorite topics is about the activities of the Falun Gong movement which is banned by the Communist government in the People's Republic of China, and Beijing is very disturbed with such activities that they have requested the Indonesian government  to ban the radio.

According to The Jakarta Post, the Ministry of Information and Communication through the Radio Frequency Spectrum Monitoring Center plans to force the radio off air.

I hope that the final decision of the Ministry, or it's agency, on this case would merely be based on the best interest of the people of Indonesia..

This is very disturbing there has been much misinformation broadcast by the Chinese Republic concerning the practices of Falun Gong I would sincerely hope that such radical steps at censorship are not done merely at the behest of another state but as you so rightly state based on unbiased investigation as it relates to the well being of your country and all its people according to the laws of the land

The Chinese Government put pressure on the NZ Government to stop parades by Falun Gong. They wouldn't stop it, but screened the march with large containers from the Chinese premier or whoever was here at the time. But having FTA's with China you ned to remember this little adage: When supping with the devil make sure you have a long handled spoon.

@Gwen Mui,
If we have determined that we want freedom of expression, it should be applied on all aspects of life. It should only be limited by responsibility and accountability to the public. No pressure whatsoever.

@Peter/Riverman,
It's interesting to know how your government refused to stop the parade. It would be good if others would do the same.
Hey, I like your little adage:
When supping with the devil make sure you have a long handled spoon.

Though Falun Gong isn't one of my favorite "philosophical systems", I really hope the RI will uphold the freedom of expression and the freedom of press.

Agree with you that the interest of the citizen come first.

@Colson,
The Falun Gong is not my favorite either. My point was that government should not be easily be pressured by other countries for things adopted in its country.

@Umihoney,
You are correct my friend. Decisions should always be based on citizens' interest, not other countries pressure.
