Please Eliminate Violent Organizations

On 6 February 2011, an Ahmadiyah secte community in Cikeusik, Banten was attacked by a mob of 1,500 people from outside the village and killed 3 secte followers.

On 8 February, several churches in the town of Temanggung, Central Java, were damaged by a group of people who were very angry at the verdict of local district court which has passed a sentenced lighter than they expected to a Christian man who they alleged had conducted blasphemy on Islam.

In reaction to the above violent actions, President Susilo Bambang Yudoyono (SBY) made a very wonderful statement that instructed law enforcement agencies to disband any organization that practiced violence.

The president's statement has annoyed the FPI, an organization that claimed that they practiced violence in the name of Islam. They threatened that if the government disband their organization they will overthrow SBY and his government.  This is clearly a crime against the state according to the Criminal Law.

But to my disappointment, the President's aides do not seemed to be worried at FPI's above threat.

The Coordinating Minister for Politics, Laws and Security Djoko Suyanto told reporters that the President's statement was not addressed to the FPI.

The Minister of Home Affairs Gamawan Fauizi even met with the leader of FPI and implied as if everything is okay.

While the Chief of National Police Timur Pradopo did not give direct answer when reporters asked him about FPI's threat.

The government's seemingly ignorant reactions to above violence has caused another violent attack in the town of Pasuruan, East Java. This time another group of people who claimed to be acting in the name of Islam has attacked an Islamic boarding school that they alleged to belong to the Shiite secte.

Considering the above mentioned facts, I hope that the President was really serious when he made his above statement and by instruct once again all the law enforcement agencies to disband organizations that practice violence in our society.

Hi There! Call me ignorant if you must. I don't understand these radical ideas. (This is not meant as a slam against Islam, I know there are people that go "overboard" about their beliefs a lot of religions but that doesn't mean all Moslems are that way. I can't grasp where the radicals get their ideas because Jesus was a passive man according to the Bible and it says we are suppose to develop His ways. He was against violence. I am just trying to understand their psyche.
God Bless,
PJ

Harry, you spoke my mind ( once more).

Indeed, why on earth is the SBY administration, why are some crucial representatives of the state and of it's institutions, so unbelievably soft on these criminals?

@PJ,
I also don't understand those radicals. They were only using Islam as a mean to justify their actions.
Radicalism would not exists if the law is enforced properly.

@Colson,
The soft response and strange indications of pre-arrangements made people think that the series of tragic attacks were actually designed by certain parties to divert public attention from bitter facts of life a.o rising prices, unemployment, heavy crime rates, injustice, corruption etc.

@Berpikir Positif,
Very sad indeed, mas.

@Wisata Murah,
Yes, let us hope that people in Indonesia can live happily in peaceful harmony.

Harry, yes, I agree.

Oh, off topic, I left a message on your friend's post on Blog Catalogue. I was told that you hadn't been around for a while.

@Deasy,
Yes the elimination should be done according to the law, of course.

@Attayaya_bond,
Benar bang, mereka kerja berdasar pesanan, kalau tidak ada pesanan mereka 'malakin' orang.

@Meutia,
Kelihatannya seperti memang, akibatnya orang berpikir jangan2 SBY hanya sekedar 'lip service' saja. Semua hanya sandiwara agar perhatian masyarakat nteralihkan dari kenyataan2 pahit dalam hidup seperti kenaikan harga2, pengangguran, kemiskinan, ketidak adilan.

@Anastasia,
i am very glad to see you here again.
Yes i have visited Blog Catalog for quite a long time. I am not familiar with their new style. Anyway I go there again and also your blog.

@ Harry...

Maybe I should ask permission first before I tee off on this one ;)

Hi Rob,
You are always welcome here, no need to ask permission. Thank you for dropping by.

Hi Harry, maybe in a perverse way this is good news and finally albeit very slowly the government is sitting up and taking notice and so maybe this is the beginning of the end of movements and organizations like this. Tolerance takes a long time to break down but hopefully that has started. I would like to think that some religious harmony could also be promoted by the countries leaders.
Here is to hoping

Hi Luke,
I am also hoping for the best as you mentioned. However from reports of today's FPI demonstration demanding the govt to ban Ahmadiyah they will make efforts to oust SBY and govt. I am pessimist about it.
But, as many experts say, FPI's threats are not worth our attention, because they don't have any capacity to carry out said threats. What we need is a strong determination to maintain law and order.

Attayaya_alam,
Saya sependapat dengan anda.
Sangat disayangkan bahwa aparat pemerintah cenderung membiarkan mereka.
