Blackberry in Indonesia

I started using Blackberry mobile phone around six months ago, and since then all my online activities became  smooth and enjoyable for me.

Blackberry enabled me to have direct access to all my e-mails, blog, Twitter, Facebook, Blackberry Messenger 24-hours a day, and my monthly mobile phone bill dropped at least 40%.

For that reason, I was so surprised when I heard the Minister of Communication and Information Tifatul Sembiring a.k.a Tifie warned that he would shut down Blackberry services in Indonesia if its management i.e Research in Motion (RIM) refuse to block Porn Sites from Blackberry internet network in Indonesia by 17 January 2011..

And from the recent communications on Twitter, I found that many other Indonesian Tweeps felt the same way too about Tifie's above warning.

Frankly speaking, even if RIM finally agreed to block Porn sites from Blackberry network in Indonesia, I doubt that there will not be Porn sites anymore in Indonesia.

I guess the Minister simply would like to give Blackberry phone to his younger kids. (lol) You are right these porn sites would always be at WWW with or without Blackberry phone. :)

If there is pornography, the best filter of pornoghraphy itself is in the private users. Thanks for share this Harry Nizam!

Will he trade my blackberry for Iphone? So, pornographic content only available to be seen on blackberry but not on other smart phones or computers? Why not block all internet access and other media?

@TUKANG CoLoNG,
Iya benar pengertian RIM yang anda sebutkan ha ha ha ... lol.

@JP,
Perhaps you are right, he may want to give the BB to his kids ... lol.

@Julicavero,
He educational background is IT so he should know better.

@Dee,
You are right, it depends on the users themselves, not Blackberry.

@Ria/The Dream Catcher,
Maybe that's what he wants i.e. people turn from BB to other HP brands e.g IPhone or Nokia. Who knows.

@Star Games,
Thank you for dropping by.

@Wisata Murah,
Maybe because many people love BB the minister wants to block it.

Titaful, Titaful, Titaful..Each time some stupid idea is being launched, Titaful is the prime suspect :).

However this is not only stupid but also a disrupting threat ;-P. By what people tell I guess without Blackberry communication in Indonesia would stop altogether :)

Hi Colson,
I have a funny feeling that Tiffie is making all the controversial statements so as to gain popularity for himself, or his party or others.
For example the Blackberry threat may possibly be an effort to make people use other smart phone brands e.g IPhone or Nokia etc.

I am more than certain that Nokia, Ericson, Ipads, Motorola etc can all be used for viewing porn and there has to be more to this than just Tiffie still getting over excited with porn in this country. Kind of pathetic really with all the other issues this country is trying to face, all we ever get to hear about it one ministers quest to command the tide. Perhaps his idol is King Cnut, and yes that's not a spelling error...

people nowadays start using smartphone(not only bb) to access everything in the websites. actually,if our ministry wanna block bb, why don't he thinks to block iphone or also samsung galaxy?

I think TO shut down Blackberry In Indonesia is useless becuse still there are many porn and adult blog in Indonesia not only from blackberry but we can also open it from computer

emang ts seorang sarjana tekhnik????

H. Nizam said...

@Luke,'
You are right.
Before I use BB, I used Nokia with their internet network which provide subscribers with service similar to BB messenger.
We can also access internet with other brands:IPhone, Motorolla,

@Meutia,
I agree that blocking BB only and not others would not end porn sites in Indonesia.

@Berpikir Positif,
I also think that it would be useless.

@Ferdinand,

@Yadiebaroos,

Well, I have an blackberry! ha ha
...and yes, it is easy to work in internet with it!
About those sites here...I really don't know!
I think that the acces is denied!
I don't know!

H. Nizam said...

Hi Wind,
I believe it depends on the user of the smart phone. With or without BB they can access any online sites incl
porn sites. Especially now that there are many cheap brands which can have internet connections.

I suspect tiffy (which is in real life the name of my friend's dog) is paid by the RIM for cheap marketing ;) look at the free advertisement RIM get these days

H. Nizam said...

Hi Triesti,
That's another possibility.
Yeah, all the big fuss that he
has been making may just be a game.

I wish Tiffie would just go ahead and ban the damm blackerries. Why wait two weeks? That way the really really important people who run this country (and happen to use balckberries daily) would have a perfectly good reason to fire his ass. In two days we could have blackberry returned and a new mencom.

H. Nizam said...

Hi PJ,
That would be a good idea, never thought about it that way.
The two weeks period may have been his effort to gain popularity from all the controversies.

We have a case here in NZ where McDonald's is blocking gay sites on its free WIFI at its branches around the country.

GayNZ.com complained, but why would anyone want to access such sites at a Mcdonalds retaurant?

H. Nizam said...

Hi Peter/Kiwi,
It seems that people everywhere are trying to make virtual fences that forbid others to cross over.

H. Nizam said...

Halo R10,
