Fauzi Bowo and Mini Skirt

In the last few days, the news media have been reporting about some women who were raped while they were riding public transport in Jakarta.

In reaction to these incidents, Republika reported that last Friday the Governor of Jakarta Fauzi Bowo a.k.a Foke has asked females not to wear Mini Skirt when they ride on public transportation so as not to arouse Sexual desires of male passengers.

This controversial statement has angered female activists who asked others via Twitter to launch protest called Mini Skirt Action tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon at the Jalan Thamrin Fountain Roundabout.

VivaNews reported that the Governor finally realized that what he has said was a mistake and apologize to the public. But unfortunately, damage has been done, Jakarta females have already been hurt by his statement.

Hmmmmmm .......... CRAZY!

Hi Harry, the governor is just wrong and totally out of order, but what makes it worse is the other information coming out about how women need to be careful and companies should provide transport to get single females home and the police will provide escorts. Why are women being told what to do when nothing is being aimed at the minority of men who commit these terrible crimes. The whole reaction and approach to preventing any more sexual attacks is so wrong. Women should not be blamed for these things ever. Opps getting angry, but thank you for letting me vent

@Fahrizi,
Difficult to understand how a Governor can say such thing.

@Luke,
In stead of blaming women as victims
the Governor and other officials do should take action to eliminate those bad guys.

@Meuthia,
Jakarta will soon have a regional election to elect governor, he should be very careful.

@Muhammad,
Yeah, pygmy soul men.

Luke's comment hits the nail on the head. And I like Muhammad-Dadan's comment too.

Judging by this incident the man is vain ( I saw this huge poster in South Jakarta a few months ago where the governor kind of congratulated himself with his building of a fly-over), handicapped by a wildly biased view on women and foolishly out of touch with 21st century's realities.

@Colson,
What's confusing is that he wanted to be re-elected in the regional election next year. This means that he should improve his public image.
Maybe he did not know what he was saying.

@Wisata Murah,
Gubernur rok mini ? ha ha ha

Does it mean slut walk is coming to town?

@harry, he might want to get re-elected, but only fools will vote for him. besides demokrat and golkar dont want to back him.

Assalamualaikum Harry,

A victim is a victim, doesn't matter the dressing . Focus should be justice for the victim and punishing the culprit. Rape is a heinous crime. Totally uncalled for remark, which says a lot about his character and mentality.
Totally agree with Luke.

Thanks for sharing Harry.

@Triesti,
His first statement truly show his real quality. He's not qualified to run for second term in 2012.

@Utomo,
Yes Pak he should fix the real problem i.e. crimes in the city.

@Admin,
Hmmmm ...... that's funny.

@Umihoney,
Yes his statement shows the kind of man he is.

@Iskaruji,
This is a hot topic.
