The Misterious Book Bomb

On 15 March 2011 three book-bomb packages were sent to moderate Muslim activist and member of President SBY's Democrat Party Ulil Abshar Abdalla, Chairman of the National Narcotics Agency Comm Gen. Gories Mere, and Head if Pancasila Youth Yapto Soeryosumarno.

Since then, many other book-bomb packages were sent to other people including musician Dhani Ahmad and Vice Chairman of the House of Representatives Taufik Kurniawan.

The first bomb which was sent to Ulil exploded when a Police officer tried to detonate it, causing him to lose his hand. This happened because the Police Bomb Squad came to the place only three hours after they were called.

The Police has questioned several people but no suspect has been named until now.

No clear message explaining about the purpose of sending those bombs have been mentioned, therefore one can only predict. Ulil predicted that the motive of the person sending bomb to him was politics, in line with his position at the Democrat Party.

While intelligence observer Soeripto thought that the book bomb packages were the works of people from the intelligence circle. It can either be done by the intelligence agency or it individual members.

Considering that people are beginning to think that the bombs were part of scenario to divert public attention from the things that's been happening lately, like the Wikileaks report about President SBY, his wife and top officials,  I hope that the Police would soon finalize their investigation on this case and find those responsible.

This series of incidents is nothing to play down. It is sheer terror. But it is remarkable the bookbombs apparently have been directed at a at random selection of well known Indonesians , that they have been constructed pretty amateurishly, that they made no real casualties ( except for the policeman who didn't deal very professionally with the device) and that they obviously didn't mean to kill large numbers of people. And no one claimed the attacks till now.

It's puzzling indeed.

Have they been send by one of the usual suspects? The military? The secret service? The Islamists? Or some other wayward mental case?

Regards, if the people to think that the bombs were part of scenario to divert public attention from the things that's been happening lately, are the tsunami and Lybia doesn't enough? I think that is a sign that terorism still exist in Indonesia but They don't have enough supply and power to make a big terror like marriot or Bali

@Ria/The Dream Catcher,
Let us hope that this case very soon so that people can live peacefully.

@Colson,
I agree that this case is puzzling.
The policeman would not try to defuse the bomb if the bomb squad came immediately, especially the location is very easy to reach. Hard to imagine why does it take 3 hours to get there.
The sender is also still not clear
soem official said they were the usual bombers, other said they were intelligence, etc.

@Meutia,
Yes let us hope the people responsible would be revealed soon.

@Smp3Lembang,
This case is still mysterious.
The faster that it is solved the better it would be for society.

@Deasy,
Yes, let us hope that the police and the intelligence agency would stop the spread of book bombs and arrest those responsible.

@R10,
Itulah yang membuat orang bertanya2.

@Furree Katt,
It is horrible indeed.

@Fahrizi,
We should take a good care of our self when receiving packages from unknown people.

I'm worried that Indonesians will stop sending good (real) books to friends as sincere gifts because I still believe that books are one of the most valuable gifts. Indonesians tend to be a copycat when they see headlines of people doing something no matter it's malicious or not they tend to try to follow blindly. I hope no one will send book bombs anymore or any kind of bombs whatsoever. And please don't stop sending good books to friends and relatives.

@Yari,

I agree with you that these terrors would not stop good people from sending good books to relatives and friends.
