Orphans locked-up in Tasikmalaya

I believe that children who do not have parents a.k.a Orphans, are very unfortunate people therefore their well being should be protected.

That's why I was sad when I read on The Jakarta Globe that the Police and Prosecutor in Tasikmalaya, West Java, have locked up some orphans inside an Ahmadiyah Orphan Home since 18 December 2010.

The Mayor of Tasikmalaya was quoted as saying the the lock-up was requested by the public, and if they were not locked-up, they are afraid that the so called Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) might take action.

The worst thing was that only the National Commission for Protection of Children (Komnas Anak) cared about this sad matter.

I wonder where is the Minister of Social who is supposed to take care of matters related to Orphans. Is he too busy accompanying the President watching our national team's matches in the recent AFF-Suzuki Cup football tournament ?

Wisata Murah,

Seharusnya panti asuhan diperlakukan secara baik, karena anak2 yatim piatu tsb tidak tahu soal2 politik.

Selamat tahun baru.

@Colson,
How those officials treat those orphans is very sad indeed.

@TUKANG CoLoNG,
Mungkin karena media bahasa Indonesia kurang tertarik menyebar berita ini, tidak ada uangnya.

I dont think it's because it doesnt sell that the media didnt spread the word, it's because it's about minority oppression by thugs from a majority religion.

Hi Triesti,

I agree with you.
It is very sad that those gang of thugs have seemingly frightened the authorities. Even two of the largest Muslim organizations in Indonesia are seemingly impotent or do not care.

I am very glad to see you on my blog. I always like your point of view. Thanks a lot.

Our welfare state protects these children - some slip through the cracks, but by and large they are looked after.
