Indonesia vs Thailand 2-1

Last night the Indonesian national soccer team once again show their ability when they defeated the Thailand team with a score of 2-1 in the AFF Suzuki Tournament.

The whole members of our National Soccer Team celebrated victory after the match.

The two goals were penalty kicks by Striker Bambang Pamungkas (30) of Persija Jakarta who has played with Malaysia's Selangor FC (2005-2006) and Dutch's EHC Norad  (2000-2001).

Although our team has ensured their way to Semi Final when they defeated Malaysia 5-1 and Laos 6-0, however last night's victory has a special meaning for Indonesia. This is obvious because of the 29 matches we have had with Thailand since 1971, we only won 8 matches.

At the same time in Palembang, South Sumatera, Malaysia defeated Laos with a score of 5-1, which means that they'll accompany our team (Group A) to the Semi Final.

Frankly speaking, watching Soccer is not my cup of tea, but the performances of our present National Team have mesmerized me, and temporarily divert my attention from other things that's happening in Indonesia.

Sejak awal saya yakin menang.

@Cucuharis,
Kemenangan ini patut kita syukuri.

@Ferdinand,
Mitos sejak tahun 1971 terpatahkan dengan kemenangan tim kita.

@R10,
Saya setuju dengan anda, Thailand sebenarnya lebih bagus tehnik permainannya. Mudah2an kelemahan yang ada bisa segera diperbaiki.

@Aulawi Ahmad,
Yeah, let us hope that we will in the tournament.

Blushing I admit I do love football ( in a very passive way though by watching matches on TV).

The Indonesian national team kind of unexpectedly is doing really fine. Three wins in three games - two of them sounding victories and one against a team which is higher on the FIFA list- is just great.

Keep my fingers crossed for them during the rest of the tournament.

(PS: I had to google to find out about EHC NORAD; an amateurs' club "down south" in the tip of Limburg province in a previous mining town Hoensbroek)

@Colson,
Yes they are doing fine.
However, a lots of homework should be done by the players and coach to improve their playing skills.
Like coach Alfred Riedl said the next rounds would not be easy.
Re: Bambang Pamungkas, he playd in Holland when he was 20-21 years old.

@Ismail/Passionate Blogger,
For me, this is not just another sports tournament, but friendship tournament among Asean countries.
In spite of the competitiveness, the spirit of friendship is also important.

ASEAN Football is mad boring..

More so in my country, but at
least the Indonesian team is
fast catching up...and inspiring
the youth to be patriotic
sportsman instead of corrupted
hypocrite politicians .
( no offence..i mean it in a
good faith)

Good news is hard to find these
days...at least sports gives
people something to cheer about.

Tahniah pasukan Garuda....

Bear Wife,

I agree that Asean sports used to be boring that's why I have never been interested before.
I started to watch in the half game when our team played with Laos.

As I mentioned on my post I am sort of mesmerized watching the match vs. Thailand because it divert my attention among others from politics and politicians who are, like you said, hypocrite.

Like I have said, I'd rather think the sport matches between Asean countries as friendly tournament to strengthen ties.
Like it or not governments of Asean countries have signed agreements for free trade area starting this year and Asean Community several years from now.
