A Teenager Marrying a Cow

Ngurah Alit, an 18 years old teenager in the Island of Bali, was forced to marry a Cow, after he was caught having sex with the animal.

Please find below an article about this that I have quoted from The Jakarta Globe.

Teenager Passes Out Marrying Cow He Had Sex With

A Balinese teenager caught in the act of intercourse with a cow passed out on Friday when he was forced to marry the animal in a ceremony witnessed by hundreds of curious onlookers.

As the Jakarta Globe reported earlier in the day, Ngurah Alit, 18, an unemployed youth from the seaside village of Yeh Embang in Jembrana, was caught stark naked positioned behind the cow in a rice paddy field.

In his defence, Alit admitted to the act of bestiality but claimed the cow, which he believed was a young and beautiful woman, had wooed him with flattering compliments.

As part of a Pecaruan ritual, a ceremony to cleanse the village of the unholy act of a man mating with a cow, Alit was forced to “marry” the animal.

Alit, however, according to, passed out surrounded by locals and police, who were attempting to prevent a number of journalists from covering the spectacle.

It is unclear whether or not he got to say “I do.”

Alit’s collapse prompted his mother to begin screaming hysterically, while other family members shouted at photographers not to take pictures.

“Poor kid. He’s actually a quiet kid,” said one villager.

As part of the ceremony, Alit’s victim and new bride was drowned in ocean.

Alit, on the other hand, was symbolically drowned and bathed on the beach.

“Only his clothes were thrown into the sea,” the villager said.

Village chief Ida Bagus Legawa declared that the village had been “cleansed” from the “defilement from the incident.”

Poor boy, poor cow. But a typical case of inequality also: the male perpetrator got his clothes cleaned, the female victim got the death penalty.

I love human absurdity.

Hi Colson,
I agree that is an absurd case indeed.

He is a local and knows the consequence of his action. The merit and demerit of a custom is subjective.I am sure from now on he dare not even glance at any cows goat monkeys etc..:)

at first sight it looks like a joke but if i read twice i have question did anyone think about those teenage problems? perhaps he needs some professional help or maybe some compassion and understanding or some proper guidance instead of this humiliation(maybe i see this case different because i'm from a different region)

Local customs, no matter they
sound weird for others, should be respected by locals.

We also think that there is something wrong with the boy. Thus this is not merely a violation of local customs.

Beastiality is gross, but nothing new. I don't think it is fair that they drowned the cow. But did he REALLY think it was a beautiful girl flirting with him or was that part a joke. If he did; yeah, he needs help.

From the news report we can say that the boy needs help. And drowning of the poor animal is unfair.

The boy, the boy, the boy. Did anyone ever spare a thought for the poor cow? She was assaulted and in the end she was the one who got drown.

Thank you for reminding me about the cow which is innocent yet should be drowned. Very sad indeed.
