Giant Sea Turtles in Bali

Giant Sea Turtles are endangered species that are protected by the law in Indonesia, therefore people are not allowed to trade and consume them.

But it seems that there are many people who love to eat said forbidden Turtle's meat, and obviously willing to pay high price for it, that some restaurants and food stalls are willing to break the law and sell them.

And recently, the Associated Press reported that the Police have just confiscated 71 Giant Sea Turtles from a food stall in Denpasar, Bali.

Harry, this is awful but will never stop. People need to experience these creatures in the wild to appreciate how special and important they are to help reduce the numbers killed and taken.

Hi Luke,
Yes, it's very awful.
There are many things that have caused it beside human greed, i.e. lack of socialization of the law to the public and weak law enforcement.

It is such a tragedy that many of the endangered species of this world are also considered as edible delicacies - tigers, bears (well their feet) gorillas, I believe their hands are often made into ash-trays. Rhinos for their horns and the list goes on.

Whales, tunny, turtles - these species will be extinct probably when out grandchildren are grown ups.

Unless..

I think the main factor that drives people to spend so much money in obtaining them is myth or truth behind such delicacies. Perhaps if we are educated from young to care for wild life the demand for such delicacies will hopefully minimise.

Giant sea turtle is a protected animal. But still found this animal was captured to be sold and consumed. It is also not free from social economic condition. It takes a comprehensive and integrated action to resolve the issue.

@Gwen Mui,
It is a tragedy that human being would want to consume endangered species and utilized their organs.

@James,
Thank you for following and linking my blog to yours. I will surely do the same things to your blog.

@Colson,
One of the reason I wrote about human cruelty toward endangered species is to let next generation know that only few of us agree with such actions.

@Umihoney,
I agree with you that providing awareness to young kinds about giving care to endangered species would help save them from extinction.

@Herdoni,
The protective law is there to protect endangered species but
due to lack of socialization and enforcement such illegal acts exists.

It hurts me to see this. I'm glad you are talking about it.

RT,
As a human being I felt that it's my duty to tell others about the bad (and good) things that we have done to nature and its content.
