Happy Birthday Mother Earth
Earth Day is a day that is intended to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth's natural environment.
In 2009, the United Nations General Assembly designated 22 April as International Mother Earth Day.
It recognizes that " the Earth and its ecosystems are our home " and that it is necessary to promote harmony with nature and the Earth.
The term " Mother Earth " is used because it reflects the interdependence that exists among human beings, other living species and the planet we all inhabit.
However, people seemed to prefer to use the term Earth Day, which is now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network, and is celebrated in more than 175 countries every year.

Birthday State of Mind
I have been spending a real good time the whole day from the time I woke up early in the morning until I returned home in the evening.
Actually the euphoria started the night before when Umihoney, a friend from Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, send
me a Happy Birthday greeting on Facebook. Few hours later, many of my Facebook friends followed.
When I woke up in the morning, I felt very eager to face the whole world. So I happily left home with a big smile, have breakfast at a restaurant, worked and have my lunch at the office, followed by a dinner at a restaurant with my parents.
Although my age grew older one more year, but somehow my Birthday State of Mind has made me felt much younger (around ten years) LOL.

Jakarta, the Big Durian
On 22 June 1527, Fatahillah, a warrior from the Islamic Sultanate of Demak, Central Java, attacked the Hindu Kingdom of Sunda, West Java, captured the port of Sunda Kelapa and changed its name to Jayakarta.
In 1619, the Dutch East Indies Company (VOC) occupied the port and changed its name to Batavia.
In 1942, the Japanese military forces invaded Indonesia and changed the name of Batavia to its local name Jakarta.
On 17 August 1945, Indonesia declared its independence, and the Republic of Indonesia.was established with Jakarta as capital city. Since then Jakarta has developed into the biggest city in Indonesia, and one of largest in the world, with a population of around 8.5 million people (2008) living in an area of around 640 Square Kilometers.
As a capital city, Jakarta is the center of political, business, financial, economic, social, educational and other activities in Indonesia.
And like other big city in n the world, Jakarta faced lots of challenges such as Public Transportations, Traffic Jams, Floods, Poverty, Slum area, plenty of shopping malls but very few public parks, etc, etc.
The government of Jakarta has made efforts to improve transportation system by building the Busway mass transportation, and is planing to build other mass transportation system such as Monorail and Underground Train, as well as additional toll roads and non-toll roads. However, considering the rapid growth of personal vehicles, traffic jam is getting worst every day.
In order to handle the flood problem, an anti-flood canal has been built on the eastern part of Jakarta and by cleaning the existing waterways.
Further, to control air pollution, motor vehicles are required to go through regular emission check, places for smoking cigarettes are limited.
Furthermore, to provide better housing, low cost high-rise apartments are now being build in various parts of the city.
However, Jakarta still has lots of other problems like Garbages Disposal, Unemployement, Criminal, Fresh water, Beggars/Tramps, Poverty, Slum area housings, Electricity, Corruptions, etc. etc.
In spite of all the inconveniences, Jakarta has much more to give to its citizens and visitors, such as good and relatively safe residential area, hospitals, educational institutions, places for Eating any kinds of Food from all over Indonesia and all over the World, indoor-outdoor Entertainment and Sports, shopping, etc. etc.
Considering the above, I felt that Jakarta is similar to my favorite fruit i.e. the Durian which has sharp thorns, thick skin, and smells okay although might not be good for some people, but TASTES A LOT MUCH BETTER THAN ANY OTHER FRUITS, therefore I would not want to exchange with any other fruit.
Happy 483rd Birthday Jakarta, I hope that the Big Durian city will become much safer, cleaner, lovelier and a lot much better place for people to live in the future.

Happy Birthday Jakarta
The birth of a city has often been connected with a myth, for example the city of Rome was said to have been created by Romulus and Remus, humans who were said to have been raised by fox.
Apparently, the birth of the city of Jakarta has also been connected with a myth.
According to the official website of Jakarta, the city of Jakarta originated from a town called Sunda Kelapa ruled by Fatahillah. On 22 June 1527, the name of the town was changed into Jayakarta, a Sanskrit word for “ Perfect Victory ” to commemorate the day Fatahillah beat the Portuguese navy’s efforts to take over the town.
In 1619, the Dutch East Indies Company took over the town and changed its name to Batavia.
In 1942, the Japanese armed forces took over the Dutch East Indies then changed the name of Batavia into Jakarta on 10 December 1942.
After Indonesia declared independence on 17 August 1945, President Soekarno appointed Suwiryo as the first Mayor of Jakarta Raya (Greater Jakarta).
Today, 482 years later, Jakarta has turned into a metropolitan city with an area of around 600 M2 and population of 8 million (12 million in the day time). And like any other big cities, Jakarta has been facing lots of problems like transportation, traffic jam, flood, groundwater pumping, trash and other problems that need serious attention from the government as well as its citizens.
I hope that with increase in age, the government of Jakarta will work much harder & smarter to cope with all its problems. If such efforts are taken, almost certain that its citizens will give supports.
