What's Wrong With Miss Indonesia?

                    Qory Sandioriva
Since she was selected as Miss Indonesia 2009, Qory Sandriova (19) has been the target of the news media.

There were several reasons for this, first because she originated from Aceh where females must wear Hijab (head scarf) whenever they appear in public.

When she was selected as Puteri (=Miss) Indonesia and  represent Indonesia in recent Miss Universe 2010 contest the media have been reporting about Qory's failure to speak fluent English during an interview at the contest.

Lately, the media have been reporting about the statement made by Qory's mother Fariawati that Qory has disappeared from home after returning from the Miss Universe contest on 23 August.

Fariawati also said that Qory has changed after she met a 65-years old man who she identified by his initial "R". She aleged that Qory has joined a Mystical Sect because she has been acting strangely.

In an interview with the media Qory denied her mother's allegation, saying that she is now living by herself in an apartment because she wants to live independent in connection with her very tight schedule.

Considering that Qory is still nineteen years old, unmarried, has represented Indonesia in international event, and now is the moth of Ramadhan, I hope that she would always act decently and resume good relationship with her parents.

Very interesting! So different.

Sure, she is a kind of national celebrity. But shouldn't these private matters be something which is up to the young lady herself and her parents?

I take it that in Indonesia, children live at home with their parents until married. Is this true and what is the average age of marriage?

@Marcia,
Although there are differences caused by religion and tradition, however women in Indonesia have equal opportunity in life.
This can be seen from the fact that we have a woman president Megawati between 2001 and 2004, besides cabinet ministers, other high level government posts.

@Colson,
I agree this problem should be settled by Qory and her mom. For which purpose they should be willing to communicate directly with each other.

@Jim Fisher,
Our laws do not have a single age criteria for every legal actions.
Depends on what the action is. To get married a girl must be 16, and boy 19, if they are under 21 they need permit from parents.
For other actions e.g signing contract they should 21.
Many matured single women live separately from their parents. And that's not a big thing especially in big cities.

I didn't see the interviews on TV but I read it in newspaper. And yeah I find it funny that the parents decided to go through this fuss making press conferences and bitch about their kid's behavior on national TV. Why didn't the parents just call her and work it out? Weird.

Fifi,
I agree that the parents should not go to the press, thus making a very big fuss about their daughter. Any kids would not accept such treatment.

@ Harry...

This really should be a case of "Who cares?"

I was going to write something on this yesterday, because she is not the first Miss Indonesia to be accused of running off and joining the circus. Wasn't there a former beauty queen that was linked to the children of god or something similar?

It seems to me that mum and dad want to cut in on their daughter's 15 minutes of fame, and they are prepared to do anything to get it.

That said, I read a story somewhere about an IDR 14 million mobile phone bill racked up in 3 days or there-a-bouts...

It seems that she knows how to get the public attention in a snap. Well... will it boost her career afterwards?? Hmmm... actually I don't really care... let's see what she's gonna do next....

@Boyin,
I also hope so.
I am glad to see you again.

@Rob,
Yes Qory's predecessor has been accused of joining mystical cult too.
I also think that her mum and dad have their own plan, otherwise why would the mum making the big fuzz to the media, instead of reporting to the police about her missing child?
Thank you for your comment.

@Yari,
If she's just another celebrity I don't really care about her. I am curious because she is Miss Indonesia.

@TUKANG CoLoNG,
Saya setuju dengan anda.

@Saung Web,
Yes she's beautiful indeed.

@Link Tea,
Saya juga tidak ngikuti berita miss2an, kecuali ada hal2 aneh.

Many young ladies who find themselves in a similar situation find it difficult to live as before because of their involvement in the 'circus' that is beauty contests. Fame gets to some and for those from rather narrow societies it can be difficult for them to come to terms with what they have lived with, and what they may desire in the future.

Peter/Kiwi,
I agree with you, it would be very difficult for celebrities to live they way the use to live before they become famous.
