Wake Up Indonesia!

On 20 May 1908, a group of young people led by Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo established the Boedi Oetomo movement that aimed to awake the people in the Dutch colony of East India about their rich cultural heritage and values.

This step has unite young people from various cultural and religious backgrounds in the country to take a bigger step on 28 October 1928 when they pledged that they are part of one nation called Indonesia, using one language called the Indonesian language, and living in a country called Indonesia

On 17 August 1945, the independence of Indonesia was declared, and after four years of guerrilla warfare, in the late 1949 the Indonesian people drove away the last foreign soldier from Indonesia.

Due to the above mentioned facts, every year the people of Indonesia commemorate the 20 May as the National Awakening Day.

I hope that this year's commemoration of the National Awakening Day would awake government officials, the courts of justice and the national and regional Houses of Representatives in Indonesia to work much harder, smarter and more serious in eliminating Poverty, Injustice, Corruptions.

  2. On behalf of Indonesia and Indonesians I of course share your hope. Though the National Awakening Day is not for ministers and politicians only; the wake up call is/was directed at all Indonesians.

    @Colson,
    Although the wake up call is for all the people of Indonesia, but people who has the potential to gain from state money and tax payers money : officials & politicians, must be awakened first.manat

  12. @Peter/Kiwi,
    The word 'Indonesia' originated from Latin words Indos Nesos' meaning
    island nation.

    @R10,
    Kita harus lestarikan pemikiran Boedi Oetomo

    @Utomo,
    Let's hope there will be no nightmare

  15. Happy Awakening Day! Actually leaders are responsible but people themselves should start doing good as well. I mean, not 100% of the efforts come from the government....the public has to do theirpart in succedding economically, culturally,politically...etc... This goes to my home country too!
