After several weeks of volcanic activities, Mount Merapi in Central Java erupted on Tuesday 26 October..
According to Kompas, 16 people have died and many others wounded because of breathing Hot Ash from the eruption of the 1,968 meters high volcanic mountain.
Several weeks before the eruption the local government has urged 11,400 villagers living on the mountain to evacuate. But only the old people and children fled, while adults stayed to tend to homes and farms on the mountain's fertile slopes.
Considering the above, I would like to express my deepest condolence and sympathy to the people who have died, and hope that their families would be given the strength to carry on.

ReplyDeleteGovernment plays a vital role in situation like this one. They should more or less impose authority to evacuate homes for the people welfare.
Yes, one could tend their house and their farm at what cost? Their life?

ReplyDeleteI agree with you that the goevrnment should be more firmed on this i.e. instruct evacuation especially because the eruption has been predicted several weeks before.
To Indonesia nature is both a blessing and a curse. Once more it is taking it's toll. The only way we can react to this calamity is by offering condolences to and having compassion with the victims.

ReplyDeleteThese tragedies are natural disasters. If one wants to attribute them to God because we have sinned as human beings, then there is nothing natural about these tragic events. They are planned and executed by a vengeful God intent on settling scores and killing innocents. Unless of course one subscribes to the theory that there are no innocents, just sinners!
ReplyDeleteI prefer to believe that they are natural disasters that have always occurred. The difference is that as our population grows, so does the likelihood that we will become increasingly effected / affected by the clashes between humanity and nature...perhaps it is the 'order' of things?
My condolences go out to the families and loved ones of those who lost someone or something in the earthquake and tsunami that rocked Mentawai and West Sumatra, to those who are suffering under the rumblings and eruptions of Mount Merapi, and to the people of Jakarta who are under flood waters.

I agree with you that these tragedies are natural disasters. Therefore they've got nothing to do with sins of people living in the area.
You are right that condolence must also be expressed for people in Jakarta who were under flood water.

I remember when I was at school they thought us about preventing volcanic eruption by making a hole to part of a mountain so that volcanic lava can flow.
