I just just read on the blog of fellow blogger Unspun that today is the National Blogger's Day.
He explained that this event was declared four years ago i.e 27 October 2007, by the then Communication and Information Minister Muhammad Nuh when he opened the first annual gathering of Indonesian Bloggers a.k.a Pesta Blogger at the Blitz Megaplex in downtown Jakarta.
At a time when most news media in Indonesia are owned or controlled by people who have money, Bloggers provide the public with more independent and non-biased information.
Bloggers have made some contributions to the implementation of justice. The most noticeable being the case of Prita Mulyasari i.e a mother of two very young children who was jailed for sending e-mails to her friends about the sub-standard treatment she received from the OMNI Hospital, and fined Rp 200 million but released after strongly protested by Bloggers who also collected money to pay for the fine.
Then there was the case of Vice Chairmen of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) i.e. Chandra Hamzah and Slamet Bibit Rianto who were jailed on charges that are not clear, therefore released after strongly protested by Bloggers.
In this connection I hope that Indonesian Bloggers would use their freedom wisely in accordance with the laws and regulations.
Happy National Blogger's Day.

Viva Indonesian Bloggers
Yesterday, 1,500 Bloggers attended the Pesta Blogger 2010 held at Epicentrum Walk, a brand new shopping center located at Kuningan, South Jakarta.
The event began at 8 am with registration followed by an opening ceremony at 10 am and ended at around 5 pm.
I was invited to the event by My Gamma as one of the sponsors, but as I have go to Bogor in the morning, I arrived at the venue at 1.45 pm. Although I was very late but registration went smoothly. I received a ticket (@ Rp. 50.000), lunch and coffee breaks coupons, a decent bag containing books, T-Shirt, etc.
Another reason for me to come to the event was to meet a fellow blogger from Bandung i.e Yari whose blog: http://spektrumku.wordpress.com I have been following for some time.
Although I came rather late but I can clearly see that the event has been well organized, a big thanks to the Chairperson Irayani a.k.a Rara (a Dentist), the organizing committee, as well as sponsors a.o Acer, the US Embassy in Jakarta, My Gamma, Maverick PR Consultant.
However, the most important factor for the success was the willingness and enthusiasm of the Bloggers to come and participate joyfully and peacefully.
The successful event was a culmination of a series of successful Mini Pesta Blogger 2010 held in other Indonesian cities like Makasar, Manado, Banjarmasin, Banda Aceh, Padang, Yogjakarta.
Some photos of the event can be found in the article that I have quoted from Yari's blog.

If a pic can depict a thousand words then I don’t have to come up with long-winded post telling you how fun the time I had during the Pesta Blogger 2010. Browse the pictures but beware of the maximum resolution of the pics especially for those who browse over a lame broadband connection, it may load forever. Voila tout!

Pesta Blogger+ 2010 : Registration

In the past (from 2007 until 2009) the event was named Pesta Blogger i.e. a party / gathering of Bloggers in Indonesia.
This year, the name has slightly been changed by adding a "plus (+)" sign into Pesta Blogger+ 2010, this is to accomodate the growing numbers of non-blogger online activists like Facebookers, Twitterers, etc.
For those who wish to attend the event, you may register now by sending e-mail to: info@pestablogger.com mentioning the subject: Registrasi PB2010. Attendance fee would be like last year i.e. Rp 50.000,-/person.
Further details on Pesta Blogger+ 2010 can be found on the following blogposts :
- Registration begins for Pesta Blogger+ 2010 (theunspunblog.com)

Pesta Blogger 2010 : Logo and Banner
RaRa and her organizing committee for this year's Pesta Blogger i.e. annual gathering of Indonesian blogger, have been doing their job well.
After choosing a nice and interesting theme "Celebrating Diversity", they selected a suitable Logo and a Banner (below) for the event which will be held sometime in October.
Good luck guys!
Salam blogger!

The Boss of Pesta Blogger 2010
In 2007, the first formal gathering of bloggers called "Pesta Blogger" was held in Jakarta.
Since then, similar gatherings have been held every year (October or November) and the numbers of attendance grew much bigger every year, a big thanks to the organizing committees for their hard and smart works.
Unlike previous Pesta Blogger which were led by males, this year it will be led by a female Dentist namely Drg. Irayani Queencyputri a.k.a Rara.
In an interview with Yahoo Indonesia (click), Rara said that she plan to involve "new faces" in the organizing committee and plan to straighten several things, among others about entry ticket which she thinks quite commercial, about the name of the event itself and who are eligible to attend.
Not much information was given about Rara except that she has been blogging since 1998 and has been active with several blogging communities, but never joined previous Pesta Blogger organizing committee.
I hope that the members of the organizing committee would consist of bloggers who are less exclusive than previous ones, that way this year's Pesta Blogger would really be a party for common bloggers.

Pesta Blogger 2009
For the last 2 years, the Indonesian blogosphere has been growing very rapidly, which can be seen from the increase in the number of people who attended the annual bloggers gathering called Pesta Blogger, from around 500 in 2007 to around 1,000 in 2008.
According to one of its sponsors: Maverick, Pesta Blogger 2007 was held on 27 November at Grand Indonesia mall, Jakarta. The organizing committee was led by top blogger Enda Nasution & team, sponsored by Maverick & Bubu.com, and supported by the Minister of State for Communications and Information who declared 27 October Indonesian Bloggers Day.
Further, according to Maverick’s Unspun, Pesta Blogger 2008 was held on 22 November, at the BPPT Building, Jakarta. The organizing committee was led by Tempo’s Wicaksono, sponsored by Maverick, Bubu.com, the U.S Embassy, Oxfam and the British Council, and supported by the Minister of Research & Technology, and the Minister of Cultural & Tourism. One of the achievements was the granting of the Bloggership Award to a blogger. Five foreign bloggers attended the event i.e. Malaysia's Jeff Ooi, Singapore’s Mr Brown, Australia’s Anthony Blanco, U.S’ Mark Lafoya, and Philippine’s Mike Aquino.

According to Pesta Blogger, this year's event will be led by Filmmaker/director, Sea Diver, Photographer & Blogger i.e. Iman Brotoseno, who was also active in the organizing committees of previous Pesta Blogger. Although Iman has still not form a team, however after discussion with his predecessors and sponsor, he is convinced that Pesta Blogger 2009 should be better than before.
In conclusion, I felt that bloggers in Indonesia are very lucky to have fellow bloggers, the government and private companies who have been willing to contribute for the development of blogosphere in Indonesia. I sincerely hope that under the leadership of Iman Brotoseno, this year’s Pesta Blogger would bring more progress for Indonesian bloggers, and help promote our country’s tourism industry.
